Rajalakshmi Guesthouse is a family-run guesthouse situated just 1 minute walk away from Mamallapuram beach and at walkable distance from most of the tourist attractions.
The guesthouse offers simple budget non AC rooms as well as fancier deluxe AC rooms. For relaxing, there are hammocs to lie in and food and drinks can be ordered from the on-site restaurant. Yoga classes are given on the rooftop. A perfect place to come and relax, centrally located but with its own inner courtyard it is hidden away from the busy streets. Filtered drining water is available free of charge as well as a small library with books from all over the world.

10. Curfew: No loud noise in the building by 22:00.
11. No Smoking in the room. Smoking on rooftop and restaurant is possible.

I stayed two nights in Rajalakshmi Guesthouse. I had my own (non AC) room at the end of the courtyard. The room was okay and actually nicely quiet at night. I slept well. Staff was friendly and helpful. I got my laundry done in just one afternoon. The guesthouse is very well located. Everything is within walking distance and there are good cafes or restaurants in the neighborhood (or even same street). The internet connection was very weak in the room, but outside it was okay.

stayed for 3 nights. first night was in a non ac room which was very hot and not too clean, but after moving to the ac room it was much better. staff were friendly and helpful, doors have locks, wifi worked well, and it is in a great location close to the beach, shops, and tourist attractions. would recommend

It's not a hostel but a nice&clean guesthouse, centrally located within the main tourist street. So you're within walking distance to the main sights and have plenty of eating options around.
The courtyard is surrounded by hammocks to relax in. Free drinking water is available. AC and hot water worked without problems. Once I thought there was a power outage but they had simply switched off the electricity in my room using a front door switch which was confusing because no one told me.
