Mile 36 Lodge is sited in an attractive location, steps away from the border to the Mount Kinabalu National Park. Stayers enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kinabalu in the front lawn of the Lodge. The grounds of the Lodge are larger than most lodges and it is a peaceful nature retreat. Within the compound, one can stroll amidst many flowering scrubs and hear the melodious strains of the birds. Sited at an altitude of 1,500m, the air is cool, between 18°C to 25°C. Mile 36 Lodge is a great place for leisure, gatherings, rest point as you do bird and flower watching activities.

In a beautiful location where you feel immersed in nature. I t was a bit of a harrowing walk along the highway to/from Kinabalu Park so recommend taking transport. Staff were helpful and friendly. Restaurant was really yummy local food.

The hostel is convinielty located near the national park but is otherwise a complete disappointment. It is not clean and the facilities are pretty terrible. Rooms are separated by stud walls so you can hear EVERYTHING. Bathroom is a wet room, which is usually fine but this has no proper drainage meaning the entire room is damp. All a bit depressing.

Mile 36 was a lovely place to stay when visiting Kinabalu National Park and we had an amazing view of the mountain from the balcony outside our bedroom. The staff were really helpful especially in arranging the public bus to collect us en route to Sepilok. It is worth noting that there are limited dining options outside the National Park but the difference in price from staying at Mile 36 versus staying within the National Park is definitely worth it!
