I enjoyed Hostel Shakti. Comfortable bed, excellent TV, clean, good kitchen, separate TV room and living room, and very nice staff. Great central location, near small food markets, restaurants, pharmacies and banks. Includes a yummy free breakfast in Restaurant Shakti. I had a private ensuite room. The bathroom faucet had to be turned on and off at the shut-off valve and the shower quietly dripped, but it was never a problem. Beautiful vibrant art in the shared spaces and restaurant.

Great little hostel in the heart of San Jose! I would highly recommend this place if you’re staying in San Jose for a few days, everything is within walking distance (museums, parks, markets etc). The restaurant below the hostel is excellent and value for colones. I would not recommend if you are a light sleeper, the train track runs adjacent to the hostel and other traffic in the area is not quiet and starts before sunrise!
