The Independente Hostel & Suites is set in a stunning, opulent building originally built as an ambassador’s residence. This means the rooms are spacious and feature high ceilings so there’s plenty of space for the comfortable, custom-made bunk beds. Hostelworld guests have had high praise for the friendly staff, saying they “always seem to have smiles on their faces”. They also have an onsite bar and beer garden – and we particularly like the delicious food in their restaurant.

A restaurant, a bar, an exclusive guest lounge and a secluded beer garden where locals and travellers alike meet every day are part of The Independente experience. Everybody says that if you want to know a city you must know its locals!
Our 12, 9 and 6-bed dorms are spacious and aired, and all include our custom designed triple bunk beds, with built-in secure storage. Counting 90 beds in total, we have exclusive female dorms, and plenty of bathrooms throughout the building.

This is the first hostel I’ve ever stayed at and it was an enjoyable experience. I’m a single female in a mixed 9 person dorm and everyone in the room was respectful and welcoming. I actually had one of the best sleeps staying here. The food at the restaurant is incredible and the staff were really friendly. Very clean as well. Great location but your on top of the hill so to come home you’ll be walking up hill just FYI if you planning to walk here with luggage. Enjoyed my time here.

The dorms are extremely clean, as are the bathrooms and social areas. The staff is super welcoming as well and helpful!
Something missing for me was a curtain for each bunk bed, which provides a lot of privacy especially in larger dorms! Also, I would have liked if the hostel had more programming for social events earlier in the week which isn’t a dealbreaker at all but nice to have!
Overall, a beautiful and well run hostel, very much worth it!

Creo que lo que realmente nos diferencia del resto de hostales son los numerosos extras que ofrecemos a nuestros clientes para mantenerlos entretenidos y cómodos. Hay Wi-Fi, seis ordenadores con internet para los huéspedes, una PlayStation3, juegos de mesa, documentales y películas, noches de vino portugués, nuestro tour en bicicleta por Belém, una noche de fado y mucho más. Tenemos un tour por los bares que es un rhapsody lisboeta, y nuestro tour indie improvisado es un recorrido a pie adaptable a los deseos de nuestros huéspedes! Incluso tenemos durante todo el año clases de surf y excursiones para hacer surf con los precios más bajos de la ciudad. Y además de todo eso, preparamos cenas comunes que se sirven todos los días por 5 euros.
