From what I've seen, this seems like far and away the best choice of hostel in Almaty, as long as being centrally located is not hugely important to you. The staff is great, the other guests were all friendly (though be aware that most are Kazakh/Russian speakers).

Simply one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. It is a giant mansion that has a family home feel to it. The breakfast is amazing. Very clean and safe....I mean you name it.

A great place to stay and very friendly, helpful staff. The included breakfast is HUGE! : ) the only observation i have is the bathroom facilities are limited, if the hostel had more occupants this could be an issue, on our floor there were only two bathrooms for potentially 16 people.
