Turned up for a booking that was confirmed months ago and had paid the deposit for. Was told they don't accept Hostelworld bookings and only bookings through booking.com. Clearly lying and had just overbooked. This left us in trying to find accommodation in Oaxaca at the very last minute at the city's busiest time of year. The staff at Don Pablo weren't helpful with the situation either. From what we saw in the reception/common area it was dingy and dirty.

DO NOT BOOK: Showed up for our reservation booked months in advance for Dia de Los Muertos (the biggest event of the year in Oaxaca) and were told the reservation was not valid as they cut ties with Hostelworld. They sent us to a "friend's" hotel and it was not suitable at all for a female traveler. Contacted Hostelworld and were refunded the deposit but they said the hostel hadn't ended the relationship-therefor they overbooked and scammed 2 female travelers.

This hostel has everything you need and not much more. The rooms are full of character and very clean, if a bit outdated (our curtains fell down!). Showers are basic and normally hot, though one day we didn’t have water. Breakfast was delicious but the same everyday (toast, scrambled eggs and watermelon). I liked it here and would stay again but if you want a social vibe and hostel activities it’s probably not for you.
