Founded in an 1850's coffee depot and lodge, the building remains intact and preserved from the days when the Viscount of Mauá had its steel beams ordered from London and assembled in Praça Afonso Viseu. At the time surrounded by the great mansions of the age, the house served as a meeting ground for coffee farmers and traders. Adorned by the natural beauty of Tijuca Forest, the point rapidly grew in popularity. Today, at the entrance of Tijuca Forest's National Park, the house has been refurbished to the most modern of standards. With its comfortable and acclimatized rooms the house once again comes alive to host your every desire.

Unlike a typical hostel, Safari offers complete hearty breakfast in the breakfast area; every evening you can enjoy your self-made dinner in our fireplace-adorned dining room with its verandas and a view of over 3.5 million hectares of the rich Atlantic forests.

Set atop Rios mountain range and 450 meters above the ocean line the temperature is frequently 5 degrees Celsius lower than the bustling city. The location of Safari HIP Hostel is perfectly centered offering access to every quarter of Rio de Janeiro in a mere 20 minutes.
